We are a father and daughter team sailing from Maine to Iceland on the container ship Bruarfoss with a crew of 12 Icelandic mariners. Tom Bell is a veteran Maine journalist. His daughter, Ihila Lesnikova, is a film production student at the University of Southern California. We are shooting a documentary about our journey. This podcast features photographs and podcasts. We said “goodbye” to the Bruarfoss when it stopped in Akureyri, the ship’s last port of call in Iceland before sailing to England and then Rotterdam. Located on Iceland’s north coast, Akureyri is Iceland’s second largest metropolitan area, with a population of just over 18,000 people.

Kirkjufell (Church Mountain) is a cone-shaped mountain in the Snaefellsnes peninsula in western Iceland. This mountain is partly owned by Hjortur Gudmundsson, the chief engineer on the Bruarfoss.
